Anfibio Nano RTC (XL), ultralight roll-top closure packraft

When ultra-lightweight equipment and high transport capacity are equally important, the Nano RTC is the packraft of choice. Because the pocket-sized boat offers:

RTC

RTC stands for tube integrated Roll Top Closure at one end of the packraft, which can be used to open and close the tube of the boat. This makes it possible to transport luggage inside the boat. The specially developed technology uses special materials to ensure that the roll closure is reliably sealed and thus enables even extended tours without any loss of pressure! The RTC is not comparable with the usual roll fasteners of simple luggage bags!

As with other luggage systems inside the boat tubes, the entire interior of the Packraft can be used as storage space. The insensitive system of the RTC guarantees easy and fast handling. The luggage compartment not only provides increased load capacity but also a lower centre of gravity and allows luggage to be transported protected from the wet.

We recommend stowing small pieces of luggage in elongated stuff bags (optionally available via top selection) for transportation (see pictures). This facilitates loading and unloading. The interior tube contains a loop to fix the bags.

Super-light design

The amazingly low weight is principally achieved by the Nano RTC's special construction. The entire boat is made from just three sections of fabric (conventional packrafts use up to 11 panels). This is made possible by form of the hull with horizontally arranged seams and direct fabric welding, eliminating the need for seam tape.

The floor and side walls of the hull are made from durable 210D nylon with the airtight PU coating applied to the interior surface. This increases tear resistance and leaves the coating untouched by mechanical stress from the outside. This groundbreaking construction archives considerable weight savings which preserving a high ratio of robustness to total weight.

Outfit

Despite its low weight and special design features, the Nano RTC still has a real packraft feeling. One of the reasons for this is the typical shape of the Nano RTC. The voluminous bow and stern provide more buoyancy at for both paddler and payloads. If the roll closure is not rolled up to the last wrap, the boat can be additionally extended to provide either more buoyancy or storage space. The seating position can then be selected at the long or short end as required.

The Nano RTC still features six grab loops (one inside the tube) for securely lashing down baggage or a DeckPack, as well as a loop for fastening the optional seat.

Special features

The Nano RTC features high manufacturing quality, evident from the cleanly trimmed and welded seams. This special construction results in a taught and slightly raised floor which makes it usable either without, or with a basic seat (such as sleeping mats). For longer periods on the water the optional seat is recommended as a comfort plus (it makes a great camp cushion or sleeping pillow too). With a inner length of 120cm, the Nano RTC fits paddlers up to 1.90m tall.

Use

Whether for ultralight adventures and trekking tours with unavoidable river crossings, extended treks in mixed terrain, or other hobbies such as fishing, geocaching or just a weekend trip to a beautiful lake, the Nano RTC takes no space in your backpack but is more than just boat for short river crossings. It is mainly used on lakes and calm flowing waters. Due to its minimal weight and tiny packed size, it makes a handy backup boat or emergency raft for other water-borne pursuits, but at the same time offers enough space to stow your luggage during the journey. Of course it’s also suitable as a children’s boat and can be quickly repacked if not used. Other suggested uses include:

XL version
The XL version of the Nano RTC is ideal for those who need a little more space but still want to travel ultra-light. With an additional weight of only 190 g, you get:

20cm more interior space
Fin holder at the front and rear (for a variable seating position)

All other features are the same as the standard Nano RTC. The extra length is particularly suitable for tall people, lots of luggage or short trips with (small) children, dogs etc. When choosing the size, it helps to mark the corresponding interior lengths on the floor in advance to get a better feel for the interior space.

Note

When closing the roll-top closure, care must be taken to ensure that it is wound as wrinkle-free as possible to ensure tightness. In principle, the Roll Top Closure is not intended to fill the boat with air, but it can be used as a support if the wind is strong enough. Normally the boat is inflated with the supplied nylon air bag. In the unlikely event of damage, we recommend the Anfibio LifePatch for repairs in the field in just a few minutes. Small perforations can also be treated with a blob of Stormsure sealant.

Ein sehr innovatives Boot
Das Anfibio Nano RTC XL ist nicht mein erstes Packraft. Ich hatte mir bereits vor knapp 2 Jahren das Anfibio Rebel 2K mit Seitentaschen gegönnt. Mit diesem habe ich bereits zahlreiche Mehrtagestouren auf Bächen, Flüssen und Seen unternommen und bin immer noch absolut begeistert.
Meine Touren mache ich oft allein, wenn sich ein Mitfahrer findet auch gern zu zweit. Bei meinem Reisegepäck habe ich im letzten Jahr immer mehr auf Gewichtsreduzierung geachtet, weil ich meine Ziele gern mit dem Zug anfahre. Da kam ich am Nano RTC nicht mehr vorbei. Die Idee das Boot als Packsack zu konstruieren fand ich genial. Dieses minimalostische Design mit dem geringen Gewicht passte wunderbar zu meinen Vorstellungen von Gewichtseinsparungen.
Mein erster Test fand zu Hause statt. Ich blies das Boot auf und ließ es ein paar Tage stehen. Der Verschluss hielt absolut dicht. Meine erste Tour führte mich dann auf die Ruppiner Gewässer. Es war eine Fahrt mit zwei Übernachtungen, ich hatte das gesamte Equipment einschließlich des Nano RTC XL in einem 60l Rucksack verstauen können und kam auf ein Gesamtgewicht ohne Essen und Wasser von 10kg. Das war schon mal eine Hausnummer und sehr entspannt zu tragen. In Lindow angekommen kaufte ich noch Essen und Wasser und ab ging es zum Gudelacksee. Das Gepäck ließ sich wunderbar in den Schläuchen verstauen. Den Rucksack mit dem Tragegestell legte ich, anders als bei meinen Fahrten mit dem Rebell 2K, nicht in den Schlauch, weil mir vielen härteren Kunststoffteile des Rucksacks in dem dünnen Schlauchmaterial nicht gefielen. Ich schnallte ihn anstelle eines Deckpacks leer auf den Bug.
Ich habe mich bewusst für die XL Variante entschieden, auch wenn ich mit 1,78 kein Riese bin, weil ich mir davon eine höhere Rumpfgeschwindigkeit erhoffte. Diese Hoffnung hat sich erfüllt. Mit entspanntem Paddeln bei leichtem Gegenwind konnte ich etwa 3,4 km in einer Stunde bewältigen. Ich bin das Boot mit einer Finne am Heck gefahren und es fiel mit sofort auf, dass das Nano RTC spurtreuer als das Rebel 2K ist. Das liegt sicher weniger an der etwas größeren Länge, sondern an der Konstruktion. Der Boden ist nicht bündig mit der Unterseite der Schläuche, sondern der Boden ist etwas höher als die Unterseiten der Schläuche. Dadurch entstehen an der Unterseite des Bootes zwei leicht unter dem Boden im Wasser hängende Schwimmer, die einen besseren Geradeauskauf ermöglichen.
Bei verstautem Gepäck in den Schläuchen genügen 3 bis 4 Füllungen mit dem Blasesack und das Boot ist gut mit Luft gefüllt. Das Boot hat nach dem aufpumpen eine geschmeidige faltenarme Form. Nach einiger Zeit auf dem warmen Wasser in der prallen Sonne war es fast faltenfrei. Das erschien mir etwas zu viel des Guten und ich habe am flachen Ufer das Ventil eine Umdrehung geöffnet und etwas Luft entweichen lassen. Das sollte man sicher nicht mitten auf einem See machen, denn man könnte schlimmstenfalls im Wasser sitzen wenn man zu weit aufgedreht hat. Bei einer minimalistischen Reise mit Tarp eignet sich das Boot auch bestens nach der Entnahme des Gepäcks und dem Wiederbefüllen des Bootes mit Luft als regensichere Abdeckung des restlichen Gepäcks. Ich habe es mit einer Leine und zwei Heringen gegen Wind gesichert.
Als Paddel habe ich mir das sehr leichte Anfibio Fly gegönnt. Ich war skeptisch als ich das Paddel zum ersten Mal in den Händen hielt, aber die Bedenken haben sich als grundlos erwiesen. Das Paddel liegt trotz seines geringen, nur etwa 25mm, Rohrdurchmessers gut in der Hand. Es werden keine Abtropfringe mitgeliefert, ich habe diese aber auch nicht vermisst. An der ersten Steckverbindung von Paddel und erstem Rohr ist eine ca. 1 cm lange Lücke die für ein sicheres abtropfen sorgt. Abtropfringe sind also aus meiner Sicht nicht nötig.
Fazit: Ich bin restlos begeistert, sowohl vom RTC Nano XL als auch von meinem Rebel 2K. Beide haben ihre Vor- und Nachteile, von denen ich nachfolgend einige aus meiner Sicht gegenüberstellen möchte. Dabei bedeutet + in dieser Eigenschaft bzw. Rubrik hat das entsprechende Boot Vorteile.

Was die Robustheit beider Boote betrifft kann ich keinen Vergleich ziehen. Das Rebel 2K hat bei zahlreichen Touren so manchem Ast oder Stein ohne sichtbare Schäden widerstanden. Beim Nano RTC ist die Nutzungsdauer zu kurz um eine Aussage zu treffen. Ich gehe grundsätzlich mit den Booten sorgsam um und versuche solche Rempler möglichst zu vermeiden. Auch ziehe ich die Boote nicht über den Boden oder das Ufer, dafür sind sie einfach, auch im beladenen Zustand, viel zu leicht zu tragen.
