This is the same base model as the undecked version but fitted with a spray deck. A deck changes the character of the boat, offering the potential for whitewater use but also has its benefits if the weather is cold, wet and miserable.
Use
The decked Trekraft remains a versatile boat to mix hiking with paddling while enabling use on wild rivers, mountain lakes, fjords and other inshore applications where conditions of rain, cold, spray would be undesirable. We can also envisage the following uses:
- Lightweight travel boat (airplane, train)
- Second/spare boat (occasional partners)
- ‘City’ boat (compact storage requirements)
Construction
The full deck comprises a cover (deck), coaming (aluminium poles) and skirt (optional). The seal is as leak proof as a kayak while opening effortlessly and reliably. The assembling of the coaming is elegant and provides a tight fit.
As with the undecked boat, Trekrafts come only in one large size. With the decked boat thigh straps are standard fittings and help connect the paddler for better response and agility. However, as it’s a long boat we recommend filling the foot area (and backrest) with a dry bag or beach ball.
